Life in the mountains

Sailung is an area around Sailung Peak
(3200 meters) in the East of Nepal. It is situated in the Himalayan Foothills. In general, life in Sailung is reasonably good because of agriculture, cattle breeding and forestry which are possible here. Many people find employment in these fields of work.  There is a big exodus of young people who move to the city. The level of education is very low, the illiteracy rate is high and many children are not educated at all. Grown-ups can neither read nor write, which restricts them in daily life.

The people of Sailung are trying  very hard to improve their standard of living. They are very much aware of the importance of hygienic drinking water, a good infrastructure and the development of the area. Offering educational opportunities has the highest priority, this amenity will keep families from moving to the city. Our foundation will commit itself to building and maintaining a school for Sailung.
